"Father of Mine" is a song by the American alternative rock band Everclear. It was released as the second single from their 1997 album "So Much for the Afterglow". The song was written by the lead singer and guitarist Art Alexakis about his own painful childhood experience of being abandoned by his father at a young age.
In the song, Alexakis sings about his father who left him and his mother when he was just a child. He talks about the difficulty he faced growing up without a father, the pain and anger he felt towards him, and how he hoped to one day have closure and be able to forgive him.
"Father of Mine" was a commercial success, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's emotional lyrics and catchy melody resonated with many listeners and it became one of Everclear's most well-known and beloved songs.
